Princess Anne is currently visiting Uganda with her husband Tim Laurence as part of the couple’s first royal tour since Queen Elizabeth II passed away in September – and she’s been wearing some spectacular jewellery.
Earlier this week, the Princess Royal paired a navy silk printed wrap dress with a sapphire and pearl brooch that belonged to her late mother when hosting a dinner party at the British High Commissioner’s residence.
On Thursday evening, the Princess Royal met UK charities operating in Uganda, inspirational Ugandans and Government officials to celebrate the thriving partnership between the United Kingdom and Uganda – and she was wearing another eye-catching piece that’s been in her jewellery box for five decades.
Fine jewellery experts at UK retailer Steven Stone have revealed everything you need to know about the sparkling jewel.
This impressive brooch is made of gold studded with diamonds, and takes the form of a loosely-knotted ribbon. It’s one of Anne’s most longstanding pieces of jewellery and was first worn by the Princess Royal at Buckingham Palace in February 1969, when she met Colonel Frank Borman, who served as a commander of the Apollo 8 mission.
A versatile workhorse in Anne’s jewellery collection, the Princess Royal tends to reserve the piece for daytime wear and has previously worn it to Easter Sunday services and the annual Royal Ascot races. Though she has worn it to some significant evening events – including a trip to Washington D.C in November 2014.
