Graham Norton returned to BBC One on New Year’s Eve for a chat with stars Olivia Colman, Michael Ward, Hugh Laurie, Romesh Ranganathan and Leah Williamson.
Captain of England’s Lionesses, Leah Williamson chatted about the the team’s historic victory in the Euros earlier this year – spilling her secrets to inspiring the team and getting them in the right mindset to win.
During the show, we were excited to see a particularly special ring on Leah’s finger. Steven Stone’s jewellery experts have revealed everything you need to know about it – including why it’s familiar to them.
What do we know about the ring?
Leah’s ring is a silver and gold plated signet ring that displays the Nike logo.
It’s familiar to our team as Steven Stone were honoured to create a collection of signet rings for the Lionesses, to celebrate their victory at the Euros on 31st July 2022.
Adding to the sentimentality, each ring is unique to the player as it has their initials and shirt number engraved on the inside.
The shanks of the rings are 3.5mm wide, while the head is 13mm.
What do signet rings represent?
Signet rings are a wearable form of identification that have been popular family heirlooms since the middle ages. They’re always unique and special due to their personal carving.
Often purchased or received at a special event, signet rings tend to recall a milestone or special event in a person’s life – in this case, when the England team made history with their victory over Germany on the 31st July 2022.
The fact that signet rings are traditionally associated with family makes the Lionesses rings incredibly touching as their success came from working together – not just to win the Euros, but also the heart of the nation.
Signet rings were originally worn only by men, but today are worn by women too, symbolizing equality and modernity.
Where else have the rings been seen?
The National Television Awards 2022 took place at the OVO Arena in Wembley, London on 13th October 2013 and several of the Lionesses were in attendance.
Leah, Jill Scott and Millie Bright were responsible for handing out the award for returning drama. Though it was tricky to confirm if they were all wearing their signet ring, Leah was definitely showing hers off.
Leah appears to wear her ring on a regular basis and was also seen in it at the Pride of Britain Awards later in the month.
