Camilla’s latest brooch encapsulates her passion for horse-racing

It’s Ladies’ Day at the Cheltenham Festival 2023, which means that there’s an abundance of glamour and style in the crowds.

You can always count on the royal ladies to dazzle and while Camilla arrived in an outfit that’s characteristically chic, what really wowed was her choice of accessory – a brooch in the shape of a horse, with a jockey riding on its back.

Fine jewellery experts at Steven Stone have taken a close look at the piece – revealing the value of and symbolism behind it.

Attending for the first time since becoming Queen Consort, Camilla added some royal glamour to the annual Ladies Day at Cheltenham Racecourse with a diamond set brooch.

In the shape of a horse, with a jockey riding on its back, the symbolic brooch is made up of round brilliant cut diamonds and enamel.

The royal face of horse-racing, it’s no surprise that this isn’t the first time that Camilla has paid homage to her love of horses through her jewellery and she welcomed in the new year with her ‘Minoru’ brooch.

Shaped as a horse-shoe, the historic brooch features diamond-set letters that spell out the name ‘Minoru’ – one of King Edward VII’s most succesful racehorses – alongside three round cut rubies and four round cut sapphires.

The Queen Consort isn’t the only member of the royal family who has expressed their passion for horses through their jewellery and one of Princess Anne’s most longstanding pieces of jewellery is a gold equestrian brooch.

Princess Anne appears to have owned the brooch since the 1980s and has regularly worn the accessory for races – including Cheltenham Festival and Royal Ascot.

As well as giving a nod to her equestrian leanings, the brooch oozes with symbolism. The horse is a universal symbol of freedom without restraint, which is perfectly in-keeping with the Princess Royal’s character.

“Camilla added some royal glamour to the annual Ladies Day at Cheltenham Racecourse with a diamond set brooch in the shape of a horse, with a jockey riding on its back.

Encapsulating the Queen Consort’s passion for horse racing, the symbolic brooch is made up of round brilliant cut diamonds and worth approximately £10,000. The royal face of racing, Camilla has previously worn a historic brooch shaped as a horse-shoe that pays tribute to one of King Edward VII’s most successful racehorses.

The Queen Consort isn’t the only member of the royal family that sports equestrian jewellery either, with Princess Anne frequently accessorising with a golden brooch that’s shaped like a horse.”
