Princess Margaret’s rose brooch – a diamond homage to her middle name

As a prominent member of the royal family throughout her life, Princess Margaret was known not only for her bold personality but also for her extraordinary jewellery collection.

From the unconventional tiara she wore on her wedding day to the ruby and diamond flower brooch she donned for decades, her pieces were as iconic as they were conversation starters.

Among the most memorable is the diamond rose brooch she wore to her sister Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation in 1953 – a striking emblem of both personal meaning and royal elegance – that’s currently on display at the Cartier Jewellery Exhibition at the V&S Museum, which features more than 350 objects loaned by the British Royal Family.

Jewellery experts at UK retailer Steven Stone have taken a closer look at the piece, calling it a sparkling tribute to Princess Margaret’s middle name, and a timeless symbol of regal refinement.

“Worn at the 1953 coronation of her sister, Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Margaret’s Cartier diamond rose brooch wasn’t just a piece of jewellery – it was a sparkling homage to her own name and a timeless symbol of royal grace.

Originating in the 1930s, the brooch features a three-dimensional, pave-set rose in full bloom, with openwork leaves and a stem adorned with baguette, single, and circular-cut diamonds. The rose symbolises more than just Princess Margaret’s name; it has long represented beauty, love, and grace – qualities that perfectly embody her spirit.

I’d estimate the brooch to be worth £100,000.”
