Yesterday, to mark Remembrance on Armistice Day, the Princess of Wales made a poignant solo appearance at the National Memorial Arboretum.
For the occasion, she wore a bespoke Catherine Walker military-style coat dress, paired with a Jane Taylor hat and wool gloves by Cornelia James. But it was her striking ruby and diamond drop earrings that truly captured attention.
Fine jewellery experts at UK retailer Steven Stone took a closer look at the vibrant earrings, uncovering everything from their history and previous appearances to their impressive, estimated value.
“For her solo appearance at the National Memorial Arboretum, the Princess of Wales added a touch of colour to her military-style coat dress with a pair of striking ruby and diamond earrings. The classic drop design features a vivid ruby at the centre, encircled by a delicate halo of diamonds, with a single diamond at the top adding to their timeless elegance.
This refined style is often chosen for formal or commemorative occasions, making the earrings a fitting choice for the Princess as she marked Remembrance on Armistice Day. She has worn them only twice before – first in May, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day, and again in September, when she welcomed U.S. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump on their State Visit to the UK.
Kate’s earrings are strikingly similar in design to a pair owned by Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, which feature three times as many rubies and are worth $300,000. Based on this comparison, I’d estimate Kate’s to be worth around $100,000.”
