Though she’s frequently seen in her horse riding attire, Princess Anne knows how to glam things up and she’s had some iconic jewellery moments over the years – including some truly show-stopping tiaras, symbolic brooches and eye-catching necklaces.
To celebrate the Princess Royal’s 73rd birthday, fine jewellery experts at Steven Stone couldn’t help but wonder which was the Princess Royal’s longest serving piece of jewellery.
Princess Anne’s longest serving piece of jewellery is her Grima Pearl Earrings, which were gifted to her by her mother and father – Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip – in the late 1960’s.
Pearls have always had a connection with royalty and the late Queen Elizabeth II was especially known for her extensive collection of pearl necklaces that she wore for countless events and occasions.
Princess Anne’s Grima Pearl Earrings have remained in her frequent jewelry rotation throughout her life, and they’ve made appearances at some very important personal events – including her wedding to Timothy Laurence in Scotland in 1992. Thus, it’s safe to say that the late monarch succesfully passed her love of pearls on to her daughter.
A particularly sentimental choice for Princess Anne, she wore the earrings during her appearance at St Paul’s Cathedral as part of Queen Elizabeth II’s jubilee celebration last June, as well as on her journey to London alongside her mother’s coffin last September.
The earrings are similar in shape, materials, and construction to another piece in Anne’s collection: her stalactite brooch.
