So, you’ve chosen the perfect engagement ring for your significant other, but where are you going to propose?
There are a lot of factors to think about when choosing the best place to propose, but the most important is how it will make the person you’re asking feel.
While a lot of people go for romantic destinations, some people are keen to add a bit of quirkiness and adventure to their proposals.
With 38k people Googling the term ‘proposal ideas’ globally each month, engagement and wedding ring specialists at Steven Stone have done some research and compiled a list of some of the quirkiest places to propose in London.
Hampton Court Maze
The Hampton Court Palace Maze is the UK’s oldest surviving hedge maze. Commissioned around 1700 by William III, it covers a third of an acre and is known for confusing and intriguing visitors with its many twists, turns and dead ends.
If puzzles are your thing, then the Hampton Court Maze is the perfect proposal location for you.
Why not race your partner to the middle? Make sure that you get there before them though, so you can get into position!
British Library
Is your partner a big literature fan? Then why not propose in the British Library – the national library of the United Kingdom and is one of the largest libraries in the world.
Though you’ll have to be quiet, as you don’t want to break the rules…
Greenwich Foot Tunnel
The Greenwich Foot Tunnel crosses beneath the River Thames in East London, linking Greenwich (Royal Borough of Greenwich) on the south bank with Millwall (London Borough of Tower Hamlets) on the north.
Having opened in 1902, approximately 4,000 people use the tunnel each day.
Every person that crosses the Greenwich Foot Tunnel becomes a part of history, so why not make your proposal a historic one.
The Slide
Measuring 178m, the world’s tallest and longest tunnel slide – The Slide – warps through the ArcelorMittal Orbit in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
You will travel down the UK’s tallest public artwork through light and dark sections as London’s dramatic skyscape passes by. The Slide twists and turns 12 times, including a tight corkscrew section named the ‘bettfeder’.
One for the thrill-seekers, it’s definitely an unusual location for a proposal! Maybe don’t push your other half down though…
St Dunstan in the East
Originally built in around 1100, Dunstan-in-the-East was a Church of England parish church on St Dunstan’s Hill, halfway between London Bridge and the Tower of London in the City of London.
The church was largely destroyed in the Second World War and the ruins are now a public garden.
Offering the perfect backdrop for a picturesque proposal, the majestic ruins represent one of London’s best hidden gems.
Hogwarts
If your partner is a Harry Potter fan, then a Hogwarts proposal could be just the thing to cast the spell.
Plan a date at the Harry Potter Studio Tour, where you can wave wands, admire scenes straight from the films, and wander down Diagon Alley.
From the Great Hall to 4 Privet Drive, the proposal possibilities are endless!
SEA LIFE London Aquarium
One of the most unique proposal ideas can be found at the bottom of the deep blue of the London Aquarium.
The London Aquarium have created a unique experience with priority access to the aquarium. The package includes a diver who will hold up a “Will you marry me?” sign in the Ocean Display, a celebratory bottle of champagne, and a photo to capture the occasion.
What could be more memorable than that!?
London Eye
If you’re looking for a proposal which takes in the wonders of London, then the London Eye is for you. From the top, you can see all of the iconic landmarks in the capital – including Big Ben, The Thames and Buckingham Palace.
If you’re after peak romance, you can book a private Proposal Capsule for a 30-minute ride with fast-track boarding that comes with a bottle of champagne and a box of Hotel Chocolat pink champagne truffles.
There are even companies who can help surprise your partner with a private performance with musicians who will sing your special songs and reveal ‘Will You Marry Me?’ t-shirts for that all important moment.
