The 2025 MTV Video Music Awards lit up Long Island’s UBS Arena last night, with one of the evening’s standout moments coming from YUNGBLUD. The British rocker joined Aerosmith legends Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, along with Extreme guitarist Nuno Bettencourt, for a powerful tribute to the late Ozzy Osbourne.
Tyler, YUNGBLUD, and Bettencourt all performed at Ozzy’s final concert in Birmingham, England, this past July. Just over two weeks later, the iconic Black Sabbath frontman passed away. At that show, YUNGBLUD – an avid fan and Ozzy’s protégée – presented him with a necklace as a personal gift.
During last night’s performance, YUNGBLUD further honoured the memory of his idol by wearing a cross-necklace Ozzy had once gifted him while they were filming the video for his hit single ‘The Funeral’.
Fine jewellery specialists at UK retailer Steven Stone have since analysed the emotional keepsake, uncovering the full story behind the piece.
“In 2022, while filming the music video for ‘The Funeral’, Ozzy Osbourne presented YUNGBLUD with a cross necklace, saying, “I hope this brings you luck.” YUNGBLUD has since called it the most precious thing that he owns.
The necklace, crafted from yellow gold, features a bold, stylised cross with flared ends and sparkling diamond inlays running along both the vertical and horizontal bars. It hangs from a substantial chain of thick, rounded curb-style links, giving the piece a weighty, striking presence.
Crosses were a defining motif throughout Ozzy’s life and career – he was rarely seen without one. By passing this necklace on to YUNGBLUD, the gift became more than jewellery: it symbolised protection, mentorship, and the passing of a personal legacy.”
