There’s nothing quite like a new handbag – but celebrities are taking it a step further, elevating theirs with sparkling jewellery accents.
During her recent trip to Paris, Mindy Kaling indulged in a luxurious splurge – a black alligator Hermès Kelly bag, custom-embellished with her children’s names in dazzling birthstone-studded gemstones.
Fine jewellery and diamond specialists at UK retailer Steven Stone have taken a closer look at what might just be the ultimate family jewels – uncovering just how much they’re likely to be worth.
“Mindy’s bag charm is a sparkly little showstopper from Bag Bijoux. It spells out her kids’ names – Spencer, Anne, and Kit – in diamond-studded cursive lettering that’s just as chic as it is sentimental.
Under each name is a line-up of their birthstones, all in round cuts: blue sapphire for Spencer, amethyst for Anne, and a mix of blue topaz and diamonds for Kit. Each row ends with a single diamond, and the whole charm is a gem-lover’s dream – featuring emerald, heart, oval, marquise, pear, and kite-shaped cuts.
The charm was custom-made by the Mehta sisters, Ashana and Aria, the creative duo behind Bag Bijoux. Their letter charms are priced per character, usually one or two letters max – but Mindy went big with 15. Based on their pricing, her custom piece probably set her back around $60,000.
Mindy joins a growing list of celebrities honouring their children with personalised jewellery. Most recently, Michelle Keegan paid tribute to her daughter with a sparkling diamond nameplate necklace.”
