As the release date of ‘Wonka’ approaches, the excitement is definitely heightening – and we certainly can’t wait to see Timothée Chalamet’s latest blockbuster. The film is set to tell Willy Wonka’s origin story, from young adventurer to prolific chocolate maker, long before his appearance in Roald Dahl’s ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’.
Known for his distinctive style, Timothée often opts for bold and unconventional choices on the red carpet and he hasn’t disappointed during the ‘Wonka’ promo tour. Wearing a cranberry-hued velvet two-piece suit by Tom Ford, the actor dazzled at the films London premier with a custom, one-of-a-kind necklace from Cartier.
Fine jewellery experts at Steven Stone couldn’t wait to take a close look at the piece and have shared everything there is to know.
Timothée worked closely with the French jewellery house on the candy-inspired necklace. According to Vogue, the actor spent hours spent hours combing through archive Cartier imagery before travelling to Paris to meet with Marie-Laure Cérède, creative director of jewellery and watchmaking, months before the premiere.
Inspired by the expressive period in the ’60s and ’70s when Cartier creations were colourful and playful, Timothée envisioned a vibrant piece. After just one look at the multi-coloured sparkling necklace, it’s clear to see that the actors brief came to life.
Fitted precisely to the contours of his throat, the necklace sits directly against Timothée’s skin and boasts a staggering 964 stones – including emeralds, rubellites, pink tourmalines and blue opals. It reportedly took 450 hours to make and this is certainly reflected in the price – our experts estimate it to be worth around $200,000.
It’s not the first time that Timothee has embraced elements of his current projects in his fashion choices and one of the necklaces that his character wears in ‘Call Me By Your Name’ was a spontaneous purchase that the actor made in Milan in the weeks leading up to filming.
