The Royal Family have officially announced the details of King Charles and Queen Camilla’s upcoming visit to Canada,
While His Majesty has visited Canada 19 times before, and Her Majesty five, this marks the King’s first trip as sovereign.
Alongside the itinerary – which includes the State Opening of the Parliament of Canada and a community event in Ottawa – the Royal Family also shared a photo of the couple. Eagle-eyed royal watchers noticed that Queen Camilla was wearing the iconic Canadian Maple Leaf Brooch.
Fine jewellery experts at UK retailer Steven Stone have taken a closer look at the historic piece, revealing its royal legacy – from the other royals who have worn it, to how it symbolises the enduring bond between the UK and Canada.

In 1939 on their state visit to Canada, King George VI gave Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, a stunning diamond brooch to honour their trip.
The Canadian Maple-leaf brooch was made by Asprey and features diamonds set in platinum, formed in the shape of the sugar maple tree leaf, the national emblem of Canada.
It was inherited by Queen Elizabeth II who normally wore it during Canada Day celebrations. She last wore it in July 2021 for a video conference with the Canadian Prime Minister.
Not only that, but the late monarch was known to loan the brooch to the Princess of Wales, who wore it during her royal tour to Canada with Prince William in 2011.

“The Canadian Maple Leaf Brooch is more than just a beautiful piece of jewellery – it’s a powerful symbol of the enduring friendship between the UK and Canada. Originally gifted to the Queen Mother in 1939 during a state visit, the Asprey-designed brooch, made of platinum and diamonds in the shape of the national maple leaf, has since been worn by three generations of royal women.
Its continued use, including Queen Elizabeth II’s appearance with it in 2021 and its loan to the Princess of Wales for her 2011 Canadian tour, reflects its deep diplomatic and sentimental value – both historically and today. Estimated at £30,000, its true worth lies in its legacy.”
