Meghan Markle channels Princess Diana with vintage sparkle in New York

Meghan Markle recently made an appearance in New York, where she delivered a keynote address at the TIME100 Summit.

Effortlessly blending sophistication and ease, the Duchess of Sussex wore an oversized beige blazer and wide leg trousers, paired with a crisp white shirt. She completed the look with a few of her signature accessories – most notably, her Cartier Love bracelet and Princess Diana’s classic gold Cartier watch.

However, it was another heirloom from the late Princess of Wales that drew the attention of fine jewellery experts at UK retailer Steven Stone, along with a striking pair of gold earrings.

Yellow Gold ‘Love’ Bracelet

Value: £7,050 ($8,760)

Meghan Markle was also seen wearing a yellow gold ‘Love’ bracelet from Cartier. Created in New York in the 1970s, this close-fitting, oval bracelet has become an icon of jewellery design.

The bracelet features a distinctive closure with two functional screws on either side, symbolising a bond that is both passionate and unconditional – perfect for sealing intense romances.

Meghan’s bracelet is valued at £7,050.

Cartier Tank Française Watch

Estimated Value: £17,800 ($23,000)

Princess Diana had a deep appreciation for watches. As her marriage to Prince Charles began to fall apart, she stopped wearing the Patek Philippe gold watch that he had given her on her 20th birthday. Instead, she often wore a classic Cartier Tank Louis on a black alligator strap, a thoughtful gift from her father, Earl Edward John Spencer, for her 21st birthday.

The Cartier Tank Louis wasn’t the only Tank watch in Diana’s collection. On more formal occasions, she sported a gold Cartier Tank Française. She was seen wearing the iconic timepiece at several high-profile events, including a visit to London’s Shri Swaminarayan Mandir Hindu Temple in 1997 and during an engagement at the British Lung Foundation the same year.

In a poignant gesture, Prince Harry gifted his mother’s elegant watch to Meghan, who, too, seems to attach great significance to it. In 2021, she wore it in a rare portrait of the couple released ahead of their episode of TIME100 Talks.

Originally worth £17,800 ($23,000), the watch’s value has likely increased significantly due to its history and connection to both Princess Diana and Meghan.

Cartier Diamond Tennis Bracelet

Estimated Value: £140,000 ($175,000)

The piece that caught the attention of our experts was Princess Diana’s iconic diamond tennis bracelet, a stunning piece she wore on several occasions before her untimely death – most memorably at an American Red Cross Gala in Washington in 1997.

Meghan Markle first wore the bracelet during a state dinner in Fiji in 2018, and it has since made numerous appearances, including at the Commonwealth Day service in 2019, the Salute to Freedom Gala in New York in 2021, and even during her tell-all interview with Oprah in 2021.

Gifted to Meghan by Prince Harry in the early days of their relationship, the bracelet is believed to be the same one from which Harry sourced stones to create Meghan’s bespoke engagement ring.

Tabayer Yellow Gold Oera Hoop Earrings

Value: £3,740 ($7,250)

Meghan Markle has long been a fan of elegant, high-end accessories, frequently opting for luxurious gold pieces to complete her looks.

The standout pair of earrings that caught our attention in New York are the Tabayer Yellow Gold Oera Hoop Earrings. Crafted from 18-carat Fairmined yellow gold, they feature a sleek knot design, inspired by the symbol of an Ancient Mesopotamian goddess known for her associations with love, war, and fertility.

The Duchess first showcased the statement earrings at the One Young World Summit in 2022.
