Princess Anne’s silver brooch that she saves for the rugby

Renowned for being the hardest working royal, Princess Anne partakes in hundreds of royal engagements each year, all over the world. Though one of her latest appearances was a little closer to home!

The Princess Royal recently appeared alongside the Prince and Princess of Wales on her son-in-law Mike Tindall’s podcast, ‘The Good, The Bad & The Rugby’. The chat was filmed at Windsor Castle and released to coincide with the Rugby World Cup in France.

Sporting a floral midi dress with a navy blazer, Princess Anne accesorised with a sizeable silver brooch that we couldn’t take our eyes off.

Fine jewellery experts at UK retailer Steven Stone have taken a close look at the eye-catching piece and revealed everything there is to know – including how much it’s worth and where we’ve seen it before.

“Princess Anne has had some iconic jewellery moments over the years and she’s not afraid to re-wear pieces.

To participate in Mike Tindall’s podcast, the Princess Royal accesorised her floral dress and navy blazer with a brooch that’s quite substantial in size. Featuring traditional engraving, the silver brooch is set with four amethysts. Having long been linked to royalty, amethyst – with its mesmerising purple hues – symbolises power and prestige.

This isn’t the first time that Princess Anne has worn the brooch and events that she’s worn it at include the 2020 Guinness Six Nations match between Scotland and France and a Six Nations match between Scotland and Ireland in Edinburgh in March of this year. It’s clear to see that the Princess Royal associates the piece with Scotland and Scottish rugby.

It’s not unusual for Princess Anne to associate particular pieces of jewellery with certain events and she regular wears a horse brooch to races that she’s owned since the 1980s. One of her most longstanding pieces of jewellery, I’ve previously estimated the brooch to be worth $18,000 (£15,000).

Princess Anne’s silver brooch doesn’t appear to be a valuable piece. I’d estimate it to be worth around $5,000.”
