King Charles and Queen Camilla have released a new portrait to mark the announcement that they’ll visit Australia later this year.
The visit will mark the first time a reigning monarch and spouse have visited Australia since 2011, when Queen Elizabeth II embarked on a ten day tour across the country with her late husband Prince Philip.
Both dressed in blue, King Charles wore The Sovereign’s Badge of the Order of Australia for the portrait, while Queen Camilla wore the Wattle Brooch – a significant brooch tied to Australia, Queen Elizabeth II, and the royal couple’s marriage.
Fine jewellery experts at UK retailer Steven Stone have taken a close look at the piece, revealing everything there is to know.
This incredible brooch presented to Queen Elizabeth II during her Commonwealth tour in 1954 was a gift from the Australian prime minister.
The Australian Wattle brooch symbolises the national flower of Australia, made of platinum and set with white and yellow diamonds.
Alongside numerous trips to Australia, the late monarch wore the brooch to many grand events.
She wore it to her first in-person engagement for 2021, along with the 2006 Chelsea Flower Show, and the wedding of King Charles and Queen Camilla.
Our experts estimate the poignant piece to carry a value of £110,000.
