King Charles and Queen Camilla arrived at the Houses of Parliament earlier, ahead of the traditional King’s Speech.
Unfortunately, the speech falls on the day of Queen Camilla’s 77th birthday and as always, duty calls. Though at least she has spent a portion of the day in royal splendor – during the speech, she was wearing several of the crown jewels.
As well as the Diamond Diadem, that only makes an appearance for state occasions, the royal was wearing the coronation necklace.
Leading diamond experts at Steven Stone have taken a close look at the historic piece.
During the speech, Queen Camilla was wearing a necklace that was previously worn by Queen Elizabeth II, Queen Mary and Queen Alexandra. She previously wore it at the coronation of King Charles in May 2023.
Known as “the Coronation Necklace”, it was originally created for Queen Victoria in 1858 and is made of a total of 28 diamonds – including a giant 22.48-carat pendant called the Lahore diamond.
Our experts estimate the necklace to carry a value of £72,000 ($90,000).
