Queen Camilla made a subtle tribute to Scotland’s heritage in her latest portrait

Yesterday, a new portrait of King Charles and Queen Camilla surfaced on social media, featured on the royal couple’s congratulatory cards sent to elderly couples celebrating milestone wedding anniversaries.

King Charles, whose enduring love for Scotland mirrors that of his late mother, can be seen wearing the King Charles III tartan in the photo, while Queen Camilla dons a skirt in the Stewart Hunting tartan.

Much like Queen Elizabeth II, renowned for honouring the four nations of the UK through her brooches, Queen Camilla continues this tradition, accessorising with a brooch she often reserves for visits to Scotland.

Fine jewellery experts at UK retailer Steven Stone have closely examined the brooch, revealing fascinating details – from its past appearances to its significant price tag.

“Queen Camilla’s brooch is undoubtedly a remarkable piece. It features a stunning 35-carat cabochon sapphire at its centre, surrounded by four 10-carat cabochon sapphires arranged in a square formation. The cabochon cut showcases the sapphire’s raw, natural beauty, giving it a distinct, almost ethereal quality that sets it apart from other gemstone cuts.

Much like her late mother-in-law, Queen Elizabeth II, who honoured the four nations of the UK through her brooches, Queen Camilla has continued this tradition. She’s previously paid tribute to Scotland with Queen Mary’s thistle brooch.

The brooch seen in the portrait has a historical feel, hinting that it may be part of the Royal archive. It’s not the first time the senior royal has worn it in Scotland, suggesting a strong connection to the country.

I’d estimate the brooch’s value to be around £100,000.”
