On 17th September 2025, the Prince and Princess of Wales welcomed U.S. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump to Windsor Castle.
The Princess looked elegant in a maroon Emilia Wickstead coatdress, styled in rich autumnal tones, and complimented her look with a historic brooch dating back to 1863 – a piece that pays tribute to Prince William and his role as Prince of Wales.
Fine jewellery experts at UK retailer Steven Stone have shared exclusive insights into the brooch’s history, including which other royal women have worn it over the years.

“This remarkable brooch features approximately four carats of white diamonds, arranged in 18 individual stones, and is crowned by a breathtaking three-carat cabochon-cut green emerald pendant. Once worn as a necklace by Princess Diana, the piece carries not only aesthetic brilliance but deep royal significance.
The jewel’s history stretches back to 1863, when it originally belonged to Queen Alexandra. It later passed through royal hands, gifted by the Queen Mother to Princess Diana upon her marriage in 1981. It’s also been worn by Queen Camilla and now Kate.
What makes it particularly meaningful is its symbolic connection to both King Charles and Prince William. At its heart are three diamond-encrusted ostrich feathers, the emblem of the Prince of Wales, a title Charles held before ascending the throne and William holds now.
On today’s market, the brooch is worth around £100,000. It would likely be more if it had remained in its original necklace form.”
