When it comes to celebrating spooky season, there are a multitude of Halloween films to choose from. Though as far as we’re concerned, none of them come close to the magic of ‘Hocus Pocus’.
Thirty years since its release, the cult classic has far from faded into history and just last year, fans enjoyed a fresh dose of the Sanderson sisters in ‘Hocus Pocus 2’ – the sequel to the iconic 90’s Disney film starring Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker.
Inspired by their distinctive colours and eclectic personalities, jewellery experts at Steven Stone have revealed ‘The Sanderson Collection’ – a selection of engagement rings that have been designed for the three witches.
The question is, which one is your favourite?
Winifred’s Engagement Ring
Value: $300,000 (£250,000)
Winifred Sanderson is the oldest and most intelligent of her siblings. When it comes to romance, Winifred has a bit of a rocky past – when courting Billy Butcherson, Winifred discovered that he was cheating on her with her sister Sarah. Known for her short temper, Winifred murdered Billy by poisoning him and sewed his mouth shut to ensure that he couldn’t share any of her secrets in death.
Contrasting with her red hair, Winifred’s dark green and blue ensemble resembles a classic medieval sorceress. To reflect this, Winifred’s ring features an emerald, flanked with pear shaped sapphires either side.
The emerald cut centre stone has a four prong setting, which lets the vivid emerald be the star of the show. To complete the look, a gold spiders web sits on top of the emerald. Spiders webs serve as a reflection of the passage of time and the patience of the spider awaiting its prey, which is incredibly fitting for Winifred since she waited 300 years for a virgin to light the Black Flame Candle during a full moon on Halloween.
Mary’s Engagement Ring
Value: $275,000 (£225,000)
Mary is Winifred’s right-hand witch – always trying her best to appease her older sister and calm her rages. Despite taking great delight in tracking children down with her powerful sense of smell and suggesting various ways of cooking them, Mary is the most caring of the Sanderson sisters.
Appearance wise, Mary has her dark hair twisted in a distinctive style like a witches hat. The middle witch wears a red dress/cloak – a colour that’s likely to represent aggression, since she has feral tendencies that include barking like a dog.
Set on a white gold band, Mary’s ring features a central red ruby, surrounded by a combination of pear shaped rubies and round diamonds, with silver spiders webs detailing on either side. The ruby has become a symbol of love and commitment, which is incredibly for fitting for Mary as there’s nobody that she loves more than her sisters and is particularly committed to pleasing Winifred.
Sarah’s Engagement Ring
Value: $15,000 (£12,000)
Sarah is the youngest and most absent-minded of the three Sanderson sisters. Her long blonde hair – that changes lengths and style throughout the original film – and the layers of contrasting pink and purple hues of her outfit mimic her youthful and playful disposition.
Sarah has no problem getting attention from men – whether its her older sisters boyfriend (Billy Butcherson) or a stranger dressed as the Devil that the trio come across when they’re resurrected on Halloween 1993
Featuring three amethyst stones and a row of round diamonds, sat on a rose gold band, Sarah’s ring perfectly encapsulates her feminine nature.
