Sparkling Serves: The engagement rings of Wimbledon

Each year, Wimbledon dazzles us with an array of fabulous jewellery from its impeccably dressed guestlist.

However, the diamonds that truly captivate the experts at UK retailer Steven Stone are the engagement rings worn by the tennis stars and their partners.

With this year’s event sadly having come to an end, we’re keeping the excitement alive by revealing some of our favourite sparklers to have graced the court.

Anna Kournikova

Value: £2 million

Anna Kournikova shines as a tennis sensation, but her exceptional skill with a racket is nearly eclipsed by the stunning beauty of her engagement ring.

When Enrique Iglesias proposed, he gifted Anna an 11-carat natural pink pear-cut diamond, sourced from the largest mine in Argyle, Western Australia. This exquisite stone is elegantly positioned between two trillion-cut diamonds.

Steffi Graf

Estimated Value: £80,000

After going public with Andre Agrassi, in 1997, Steffi Graf tied the knot with the athlete in 2001.

Steffi sports a pear cut diamond in a solitaire setting. The sizeable stone sits on a silver band.

Serena Williams

Estimated Value: £1.5 million

Serena Williams is widely regarded as one of the greatest tennis players of all time, so it makes sense that she has one of the greatest celebrity engagement rings!

When Alexis Ohanian proposed to the star, he did so with a beautiful ring that boasts a 12 carat oval cut diamond.

The centre stone is flanked by two smaller semi-circle stones.

Mirka Federer

Estimated Value: £2.2 million

When Roger Federer proposed to Mirka in 2017, he did so with an emerald cut diamond ring.

Since then, she’s had quite the upgrade and is currently rocking a 20 carat princess cut diamond in a halo setting.

Further enhancing its sparkle, the huge stone is sat on a pave band.

Mirka’s ring is reportedly a one-of-a-kind design from Brazilian jeweller, H. Stern.

Maria Sharapova

Estimated Value: £250,000

Maria Sharapova shared the happy news that she was engaged to her partner Alexander Gilkes via an Instagram post in 2020.

She was seen flaunting an elegant ring featuring a sizeable emerald-cut diamond in a solitaire setting, elegantly perched on a thin rose gold band.

Kim Murray

Estimated Value: £250,000

When Andy Murray popped the question to Kim Sears back in 2014, he did so with a dazzling diamond ring.

Kim’s eye-catching sparkler features a large round-cut diamond in a halo setting, elegantly set on a silver band.

“Each year, Wimbledon dazzles us with an array of fabulous jewellery from its impeccably dressed guestlist. However, it’s the engagement rings worn by the tennis stars and their partners that truly captivate us here at Steven Stone. As this year’s event draws to a close, we’re thrilled to unveil some of our favourite sparklers that have graced the court.

With an estimated value of £2.2 million, Mirka Federer boasts one of the most expensive engagement rings in the tennis world. Initially proposed to with an emerald cut diamond in 2017 by Roger Federer, she now flaunts a stunning 20-carat princess cut diamond set in a halo, adorned with a pave band for added brilliance. This one-of-a-kind design is attributed to Brazilian jeweler H. Stern, making it a true masterpiece of luxury and elegance.

Though most of the engagement rings boast substantial values and feature sizeable centre stones, they tend to be set in simple, elegant settings. For players like Serena Williams and Anna Kournikova, this design choice is likely to be down to their active and sporty lifestyles – prioritising practicality and comfort without compromising on style and sophistication.”
