When Russell came to see us ahead of his proposal, he had no idea where to start.
Finding the perfect engagement ring takes time and research and our team at Steven Stone were delighted to talk Russell through everything to ensure that he picked the right ring.
Russell popped the question on the beach during a trip to Marbella and from palm trees to the sun going down, it sounded like a perfect moment.
After the proposal, we had a quick chat with Russell to find out how he found the experience of designing a bespoke engagement ring – and most importantly, if she said “yes”.
Can you tell me a bit about your ring?
I didn’t know where to start when it came to choosing a ring. When visiting the shop with my friend Tom, we sat down with Daniel and basically said, start from the beginning and tell us everything. From the 4 c’s to price ranges.
How did you propose?
I proposed during mine and Emma’s holiday to Marbella. I was so nervous about getting the ring through security at the airport and into another country, before having to hide it in the hotel room. Throughout the week, I was pretty calm and noting places where I could pop the question. In the end, we booked to go to our favourite restaurant on the Saturday.
Saturday came and I was a bag of nerves from the moment I woke up, but I didn’t let it show! In the evening, as we both got changed and made our way out of the hotel, I decided to seize the chance. With the ring in my pocket, I said “let’s get a picture down near the beach” – single photos, then a selfie.
As Emma lent against a palm tree smiling with the beach in the background, the sea drifting in and the sun going down, I said “something’s not right with this photo, but I know how I can make it better”. I walked up to her, took out the ring and asked her to marry me. She asked if I was serious before she said yes! We spent the next hour phoning family before heading off to the restaurant.
Why bespoke?
I think when you have the opportunity to create the ring to your liking, it makes it more personal to you and your partner.
Where did you get the idea for the design of your piece?
I went with a princess cut diamond, mainly because I knew that Emma liked the cut – plus, she is my princess!
Is your piece as you imagined?
I couldn’t be happier with the ring. It’s exactly as we talked about and I imagined – if not better!
Any other comments?
From start to finish, the customer service at Steven Stone was first class! I felt so comfortable. Communication was key. I feel as though friendships were made and we can’t wait to go back in to start looking for wedding rings!
