Kerry and Vinny’s engagement story is nothing short of magical, with a proposal set against the stunning backdrop of Dubai’s desert heat.
We’re thrilled to have designed Kerry’s exquisite ring, as being a part of our customers’ love stories is something we deeply cherish. The couple’s unforgettable moment reflects not only their romance but also the elegance and sparkle that a Steven Stone ring brings to such a special occasion.
We recently had the pleasure of speaking with Kerry about the moment she said “yes” to Vinny, and the design of her stunning ring.
Can you tell us a bit about your stunning engagement ring?
Yes, my engagement ring features an oval cut diamond in a solitaire setting, on an ultra thin yellow gold band.
It’s so stunning and when the light hits it, it’s nothing short of amazing. I can’t stop looking at it!
-And what about Vinny’s proposal? We’d love to hear all of the details!
‘Yes’ day was on the 24th August 2023 at Burj Khalifa fountains in Dubai. We were on a family holiday with our daughter Sophia. Looking back, her and Vinny were having ‘secret chats’ all day, but I didn’t think anything of it at the time.
We were having a lovely day by the beach and pool. We were staying at Atlantis the Palm, but had plans to head to the Burj Khalifa in the evening for a meal and to watch the fountains. We headed out at around 6pm as the taxi journey took around 45 minutes and the table was booked for 7pm. I remember it being sooooo hot! I was wearing a floor length dress (thin material thankfully) but it was so hot and sweaty. We’d booked an outdoor table at an Italian restaurant that directly faced the fountains, offering the best view.
Sophia blurted out “I can’t hold it in” at the dinner table – unbeknown to me, Vinny gently kicked her under the table, to which she laughed and said “I need a wee”. The pair of us headed to the toilets and on the way there she said that she needed to tell me something but couldn’t. You’d think that I would have twigged, but no! Sophia says crazy things all of the time, so I didn’t think anything of it.
Vinny had told Sophia of his plans to proposed earlier in the day and to be fair, the pair of them can’t hold their own water, so how they kept it from me, I’ll never know. The fountains were amazing and after our meal, we headed towards the water to see if we could get on one of the boats. The queues were too long and it was unbearably hot, but we arrived at a beautiful arched tunnel of lights. Vinny suggested that we had some photos, with Sophia offering to take them.
I thought Sophia was snapping away, but she was actually filming us. Looking back at the video, it’s hilarious as I’m shaking the lower part of my dress to cool my legs down. I’m facing the camera asking her if she’d like to have a photo with her Dad, while Vinny is behind me on one knee with his tongue out. It takes me a minute to turn around but when I do, it’s a total shock. He’s on his knee under a magical arch of fairy lights in front of the Burj Khalifa, asking me to marry him (it only took him 16 years!) I do think I was in shock and it was strange as when I said “yes”, we had a brief hug then remembered that we were in Dubai, so couldn’t kiss in public.
We tried to get the ring on, but it was too small. My fingers had completely swollen in the heart – and I have bigger fingers naturally – so it went on my pinkie for the photos. Sophia was made up! She kept repeating “my Mum and Dad are getting married!” She’s still saying that in now, in disbelief that her Daddy put a ring on it after 16 years. After all the excitement, I got my composure back, Vinny could finally relax and we enjoyed the atmosphere for a while, before heading back to Atlantic to celebrate and phone my Mum.
Did you always have a design in mind for your ring, or did you have a helping hand?
I’ve always loved a classic style and simple band – the stone has to be the focus! Oval shaped diamonds look so elegant and classic. Vinny knew what my ring preferences were as I’ve dropped enough hints over the years! But yes, it’s completely perfect and something that I would have chosen if I was picking it myself. The boy did good.
What made you choose Steven Stone?
A couple of Vinny’s family members have chosen Steven Stone for their special occasions, so he had recommendations from them.
I think Vinny also liked the personal service – from choosing the stone, to the design of the band. I had to get the ring re-sized when we returned from Dubai, so it was lovely visiting the shop with Sophia and having that 1:1 interaction and service.
Is there anything else that you’d like to add?
Thank you for making me the ring of dreams! We’ll be back for sure when it’s time for the “I do’s”.
