Prince William and Kate Middleton had a busy World Mental Health Day in 2023. The Prince and Princess visited Birmingham, where they hosted a forum for young people, around ‘Exploring our Emotional Worlds’.
As always, the Princess of Wales had put a lot of thought into her jewellery and made a touching tribute with a pair of earrings that were gifted to her by Maidenhead Rugby Club coach, Sarah Renton. The earrings were made in memory of Sarah’s daughter, Issy, who sadly took her own life earlier in the year.
The earrings have since helped to raise thousands for Brave Mind and to express their gratitude to the Princess, the jewellery brand who made the special earrings have launched a pair of earrings in her honour, called ‘The Catherine’.

The earrings that Kate wore
In June 2023, the Princess of Wales met Sarah Renton – the coach of the Maidenhead under-14s rugby team – during her visit to visited Maidenhead Rugby Club for an event linked to her Shaping Us initiative.
Sarah gifted the Princess a pair of 18k gold plated star earrings. The ‘Issy Star’ earrings were made in memory of Sarah’s daughter, Issy, who sadly took her own life earlier in the year.
Made by Issy’s cousin Sophie McGown, who runs the jewellery brand EARSASS, the design of the earrings is incredibly symbolic as since ancient times, stars have been associated with forever, hope, destiny, heaven and freedom.
The earrings retail at just £25.50 and £5 from each pair sold go to the charity, Brave Mind. Since Kate touchingly wore a pair, the brand have raised thousands for Brave Mind – a charity with the aim to make a positive, lasting difference to the rugby community’s mental health and wellbeing.
The Catherine
To honour the Princess of Wales, EARSASS have made a pair of earrings in her honour, called ‘The Catherine’.
The earrings have a diameter of 2.5cm and feature glass beads that are either, 14k gold plated or silver plated with 925 silver post.
The small glass beaded hoops are unique, beautifully elegant and timeless – just like the Princess.
The earrings sold out within two hours of launching, but you can pre-order a pair for just £27.
