Meghan Markle wore over £150k worth of jewellery to accept Humanitarian of the Year award

On Thursday evening, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped out in style for the Project Healthy Minds 3rd Annual Gala at Spring Studios in New York City, where they were honoured with a prestigious humanitarian award in recognition of their ongoing advocacy for mental health awareness.

Meghan, ever the style icon, wore a sleek Giorgio Armani silk jacket paired with tailored trousers – boldly choosing to forgo a blouse for a modern, fashion-forward look.

As always, the Duchess of Sussex completed her ensemble with a stunning selection of jewellery, including a new pair of earrings recently gifted to Prince Harry for her.

Fine jewellery specialists from UK retailer Steven Stone have taken a closer look at her dazzling accessories, offering expert insight into the £159,681 worth of pieces she wore.

Engagement Ring

Estimated Value: $147,000 (£120,000)

When Prince Harry proposed in 2017, he presented Meghan with a beautiful three stone engagement ring, featuring diamonds from Princess Diana’s jewellery collection.

Over 18 months later Meghan made some alterations to the ring, replacing the yellow gold band with a delicate diamond pave band instead.

Prince Harry custom designed the ring which includes a centre cushion cut diamond, sourced from Botswana – a place that holds a special place in the couple’s hearts. Botswana diamond mining has contributed to transforming Botswana into one of Africa’s most prosperous countries, and Botswana diamond mines are dedicated to minimizing their environmental footprint.

Our experts estimate this 3 to 4 carat stone is extremely high quality with incredible colour and clarity, flawless to the naked eye. The two round diamonds supporting the centre stone are from Princess Diana’s jewellery collection are around 0.5 to 0.75 carats each.

Wedding Band

Estimated Value: $13,300 (£10,000)

The wedding band Harry gave to Meghan was made of Welsh gold gifted by Queen Elizabeth II. It was made from the same nugget of gold that was used to make her ring, along with the Duchess of Cambridge’s.

Prince Harry’s wedding band is crafted in platinum and has a textured surface. Both rings were made by Cleave & Company, the same jeweller who created Meghan’s three-stone diamond engagement ring.

Double Link Chain Necklace

Value: $600 (£490)

From Annie Bing, the bold piece is crafted from solid 14k gold-plated brass with twisted rope texture.

Flats Earrings

Value: $2,630 (£1,971)

Meghan’s earrings are the ‘Flats’ design in yellow gold and diamonds by Ukrainian jewellery brand Guzema – a thoughtful gift from Prince Harry, who received them on her behalf during his recent visit to Ukraine.

Cartier Tank Française Watch

Estimated Value: $23,000 (£17,800)

Princess Diana had a deep appreciation for watches. As her marriage to Prince Charles began to fall apart, she stopped wearing the Patek Philippe gold watch that he had given her on her 20th birthday. Instead, she often wore a classic Cartier Tank Louis on a black alligator strap, a thoughtful gift from her father, Earl Edward John Spencer, for her 21st birthday.

The Cartier Tank Louis wasn’t the only Tank watch in Diana’s collection. On more formal occasions, she sported a gold Cartier Tank Française. She was seen wearing the iconic timepiece at several high-profile events, including a visit to London’s Shri Swaminarayan Mandir Hindu Temple in 1997 and during an engagement at the British Lung Foundation the same year.

In a poignant gesture, Prince Harry gifted his mother’s elegant watch to Meghan, who, too, seems to attach great significance to it. In 2021, she wore it in a rare portrait of the couple released ahead of their episode of TIME100 Talks.

Originally worth £17,800 ($23,000), the watch’s value has likely increased significantly due to its history and connection to both Princess Diana and Meghan.

Yellow Gold ‘Love’ Bracelet

Value: $8,760 (£7,050)

Meghan Markle was also seen wearing a yellow gold ‘Love’ bracelet from Cartier. Created in New York in the 1970s, this close-fitting, oval bracelet has become an icon of jewellery design.

The bracelet features a distinctive closure with two functional screws on either side, symbolising a bond that is both passionate and unconditional – perfect for sealing intense romances.

Mini Bezel Tennis Bracelet

Value: $3,000 (£2,370)

Meghan was wearing a refined mini gold tennis bracelet, handcrafted from polished 18-karat yellow gold.

Designed by Jennifer Meyer, the ex-wife of actor Tobey Maguire, the piece is priced at $3,000.

“The most valuable piece Meghan was wearing was, unsurprisingly, her engagement ring – worth around $147,000 (£120,000). The custom design features a cushion-cut diamond from Botswana, flanked by two diamonds from Princess Diana’s personal collection.

One of the Duchess’s most recognisable and frequently worn accessories, however, is the iconic Cartier ‘Love’ bracelet, worth $8,760 (£7,050), which she has been seen wearing on numerous occasions over the years.

It’s clear that sentiment plays a central role in Meghan’s jewellery choices. From the Cartier Tank Française watch that belonged to Princess Diana, to the ‘Flats’ earrings by Ukrainian brand Guzema – a thoughtful gift from Prince Harry – each piece tells a story. Even her wedding band, crafted from rare Welsh gold gifted by the late Queen Elizabeth II, holds deep royal significance.

For Meghan, jewellery is never just about glamour – it’s rich in meaning and personal history. And at the Gala, she was adorned in over £150,000 worth of it.”
