Sophie Wessex is one of the busiest members of the royal family, often carrying out engagements with dedication, yet she tends to fly under the radar.
Her style is effortlessly smart and elegant, frequently incorporating jewellery pieces that can be found on the high street. However, when she steps out in royal jewels, they are always rich with symbolism, reflecting history, heritage, and deep personal meaning.
In celebration of Prince Edward’s forthcoming birthday, Steven Stone’s jewellery experts have examined one of Sophie Wessex’s special brooches – a piece that beautifully encapsulates her deep bond with the late Queen Elizabeth II.

“Sophie Wessex’s stunning bejeweled berry brooch features two intricately crafted strawberries, set with a blend of black and silver diamonds. Symbolising love, prosperity, and perfection due to their heart-shaped form, strawberries hold deep meaning.
The Duchess of Edinburgh was first photographed wearing the piece at Sadler’s Wells Theatre in 2001. She later wore it in the presence of Queen Elizabeth II at Royal Ascot in 2014 and, poignantly, at the late monarch’s funeral in 2022.
The exquisite brooch not only reflects Sophie’s deep connection with her late mother-in-law, but also serves as a touching tribute to their unique bond – perhaps even acknowledging Queen Elizabeth II’s fondness for strawberries, which she often enjoyed during her stays at Balmoral.
Based on its intricate design, I’d estimate the brooches value at approximately $30,000 (£24,000).”
