Is this the most luxurious James Bond collectible ever?

Collectors and fans are eagerly flocking to get their hands on the new Be@rbrick that pays tribute to one of 007’s most iconic adventures.

A masterpiece that seamlessly blends exceptional craftsmanship with cinematic history, the figurine is a special collaboration between Bond, Medicom Toy, and Malaysian pewter specialists Royal Selangor, celebrating the legendary film, ‘The Man with the Golden Gun’, which was released in 1974.

The golden gun remains one of James Bond’s most iconic gadgets. Designed for stealth and composed of five distinct elements, its instantly recognisable profile makes it an ideal inspiration for this collectible.

Priced just under £2,000, the figurine is destined to become a coveted collector’s item. Fine jewellery experts at UK retailer Steven Stone have explored the intricate 24k gilt-finish pewter construction, the significance of its gold elements, and revealed why the remarkable piece commands such a prestigious price tag.

What do we know about the Be@rbrick figurine?

Crafted from heavy 24ct gilt finish pewter, the Be@rbrick figure features a textured torso and legs, with a gun barrel design on the right eye. All parts of the golden gun are represented, and the film title is engraved on the back of the figure’s head. A single golden bullet is placed on the sole of the right foot.

The figure consists of nine parts in total: a head, torso, hips, and movable arms, hands, and legs. It can stand on its own or be posed in various positions.

The Be@rbrick comes in a black wooden collector’s case with a clear acrylic front and a special golden plaque.

What is Pewter?

Pewter is a versatile, durable metal alloy that’s primarily made of tin, with small amounts of copper, antimony, or other metals. It’s lighter and less expensive than solid gold, which is known for its luxury and rich colour.

Pewter has a unique, soft shine and can be easily shaped into detailed designs, making it ideal for decorative pieces and collectibles, such as Be@rbrick figurines.

The main drawback of pewter is that, while it is relatively durable, it can be more susceptible to scratching or denting because it is softer than many other metals.

How much would a solid gold Be@rbrick figurine cost?

If you think that the price tag is a bit steep, wait until you find out how much it would be if it were made from solid gold.

An average 400% Be@rbrick figurine like this, which has a height of 28cm, typically weighs around 250 grams. With gold priced around $94 per gram / £73 per gram at present, the cost of such a figurine would be roughly $23,500 USD / £18,250 GBP.

While the above figures are based on an average design and current gold prices, the final cost may vary depending on fluctuations in gold prices or the intricacies of the design.

As luxurious as a solid gold Be@rbrick figurine would be, its solid gold construction would make it incredibly heavy, given that gold is one of the densest metals, weighing nearly 19.32 grams per cubic centimeter!

“The figurine is crafted from heavy 24ct gilt-finish pewter – a versatile, durable metal alloy that is lighter and more affordable than solid gold. While it may not have the same luxurious depth of colour as gold, it’s relatively long-lasting, though it can be more prone to scratching or denting due to its softer nature. Priced just under £2,000, it’s destined to become a highly sought-after collector’s item.

While £2,000 is certainly a significant sum to spend on a figurine, especially in today’s world, it’s hard not to wonder how much it would be worth if it were made of solid gold. An average 400% Be@rbrick figurine like this weighs around 250 grams and stands at 28cm. With gold priced at $94 per gram / £73 per gram at present, a solid gold version would cost roughly $23,500 USD / £18,250 GBP. Though, of course, this would vary depending on the design details or fluctuations in gold prices.

As luxurious as a solid gold figurine would be, it would also be incredibly heavy. Gold’s density – one of the highest among metals – gives it substantial weight, while its rich luster and durability are precisely why it is so highly valued in fine jewellery.”
